Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team used its boat to search for the injured walker

A mountain rescue team launched its boat to reach an injured walker on a lakeside path.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 8.15pm yesterday after the man, in his early 20s, suffered a serious cut below his knee while walking with friends on the path above Ullswater.

A team spokesperson said: “After a short search of the lake shore in failing light the man and his friends were located about 800m southwest of Sandwick.

“The man was assessed and his wound was dressed and bandaged before he was stretchered down a steep bank to the waiting boat.

“He was then transported along to Howtown where he was transferred to a county ambulance.”

The 3½-hour rescue involved 13 volunteers from Patterdale MRT.
