Outdoor gear distributers have asked walkers to be on the lookout for dodgy characters selling boots after a large quantity of Meindl footwear was stolen from a lorry.

The vehicle was travelling from Germany to a warehouse in Rushden, Northamptonshire last Thursday when it was broken into.

Bramwell International, which distributes Meindl boots in this country, appealed to retailers and outdoor enthusiasts to keep their eyes and ears open for anything suspicious being offered.

A company spokesperson said: “If you hear anything about Meindl footwear coming from a source which is not a legitimate outdoor retailer could you please contact Bramwell International on 015395 60214 with the relevant information so that it can be passed onto the police dealing with this theft.”

Among the Meindl products stolen were: Respond Men XCR; Respond Men Mid XCR; Respond Lady XCR; Respond Lady Mid XCR; Meran GTX Mens and Ladies; Rapide GTX Mens and Ladies; Dovre Extreme GTX; Burma Pro MFS and Softline Light GTX.
