A walker was airlifted from a Lake District fell after suffering chest pains.

The 50-year-old from Carnforth, Lancashire, was walking alone on the fells south-west of Angle Tarn above Patterdale today when he called 999.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4.40pm and requested help from the Great North Air Ambulance.

The helicopter flew its doctor and paramedic to the scene to begin treatment and then airlifted nine mountain rescue team members to the fell above the man.

The walker was treated at the site and then team members stretchered him up the fell to the waiting aircraft.

He was then flown to hospital for further treatment.

The 2½-hour rescue involved 14 Patterdale MRT volunteers.
