A walker was airlifted from a north Wales hillside after collapsing.

The 55-year-old woman was on Moel y Gest, near Porthmadog this morning when she got into difficulties.

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 11.30am and five members who were already out providing safety cover for the Cnicht Mountain Race near Beddgelert, diverted to the site and were joined by four others from the team’s Porthmadog headquarters.

A Sea King search and rescue helicopter from RAF Valley on Anglesey also flew to the scene, where the woman was reported to be unconscious.

An Aberglaslyn MRT spokesperson said: “Once at scene, the female had regained consciousness, and was suspected to be suffering from the effects of heatstroke or a fainting episode.

“She was then airlifted on board the aircraft and evacuated to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.”

The rescue ended at 2pm.
