A walker has died after falling more than 60ft from a Lake District path.

The 65-year-old man was with an organised group yesterday when he fell 20m from the path above St John’s Beck in St John’s in the Vale.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 4pm.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “The team and North West Ambulance Service were quickly on the scene.

“Although he was given cardio-pulmonary resuscitation by members of his own party, and then team members, doctors and ambulance staff, he was unable to be saved.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Members of the Keswick team stretchered his body to the road to a waiting vehicle.

The rescue involved 18 volunteer team members and lasted three hours.
