The Great North Air Ambulance's Pride of Cumbria helicopter at the rescue scene on Skiddaw

A walker was airlifted from a Lake District mountain after breaking his leg after tripping.

The 50-year-old from Glasgow was walking on Skiddaw yesterday when he fell on Broad End.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 1.35pm and stood by at Peter House Farm, north of the fell, while the Pride of Cumbria air ambulance flew to the site.

A Great North Air Ambulance doctor and paramedic assessed and treated the walker on the mountain before he was flown to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for further treatment.

The Keswick team then returned to its base.
