Police have arrested a man in connection with thefts of charity collecting boxes, including those for mountain rescue teams, in the Lake District.

Cumbria Constabulary said officers had detained 54-year-old Derrick Matthews yesterday in Ambleside.

They added he has been charged with two thefts and is due to appear today at South Lakeland Magistrates Court, Kendal.
