A visitor to a Yorkshire Dales show cave had to be rescued after breaking her ankle underground.

The 43-year-old woman hit her head on a low roof in White Scar Cave near Ingleton today and fell over backwards, injuring her leg.

The Cave Rescue Organisation was called out about 1.40pm and went to the woman’s aid.

She was treated by a team doctor and paramedics and then stretchered out by CRO members and taken to the surface where an ambulance was waiting to take her to hospital for further treatment.
