A mountain biker was rescued after injuring himself when he fell off his machine.

The rider, described by rescuers as a local man, dislocated his shoulder when he came off his bike on the Old Coach Road which runs over the fells north of Clough Head between Matterdale and Threlkeld.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 12.40pm on Tuesday.

The team said a passing farmer and two walkers helped the man and called for help.

A team spokesperson said: “At the time of the incident some team members were meeting with the Coastguard at Patterdale MRT base and immediately responded to the 999 call.

“The man was treated on scene and transported by Land Rover ambulance to a waiting ambulance.”

The two-hour rescue involved seven volunteer team members.
