The woman injured her ankle on Greenup Edge

A walker was airlifted from a Lakeland fell after injuring herself.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out today at 2.50pm when the 66-year-old woman suffered an ankle injury while walking at Greenup Edge between Langstrath and upper Easedale.

A team spokesperson said: “The team responded with a group of six initially and followed this up with a further vehicle.

“Some team members went direct to the meeting point. The first group reached the scene at much the same time as the North West Air Ambulance, and assisted the crew to carry the casualty to the aircraft.

“She was then flown to Furness General Hospital [in Barrow-in-Furness] for further treatment.”

The rescue involved 22 volunteers from the Keswick team and lasted almost 3½ hours.
