Police have named the two brothers and their cousin who died while kayaking on the River Tyne.

The bodies of Darren Thorpe, 41 and Mark Thorpe, 39, both of South Shields, and Gavin Bradley, 36, of Jarrow, were found in the river by rescuers on Monday.

The three had gone for a paddling trip on the river near Hexham and were reported missing when they failed to return home.

Northumbria Police said: “Enquiries will continue into the circumstances leading to the deaths and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
