Search teams looking for a missing walker on England’s highest mountain have found a man’s body.

Police were alerted after Christopher Blowman, 67, failed to return after going for a walk on Scafell Pike yesterday.

Mr Blowman and his wife, from Louth in Lincolnshire, were staying in the area. She expressed her concern for the welcfare of her husband, who was described as an experienced walker.

Mountain rescue teams were called out and were joined in the operation by a search and rescue helicopter.

Cumbria Constabulary said rescuers found a body in Piers Gill, a deep ravine leading from the Corridor Route, one of the paths between Sty Head and Scafell Pike.

A police spokesperson said: “No formal identification has taken place and teams are working to recover the body.

“The family of Mr Blowman has been informed.”
