The men ran out of power attempting a return trip on Ullswater

Mountain rescuers spent an hour and a half ferrying three men in a boat to their destination after they ran out of power.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team came across the trio in a small inflatable dinghy after carrying out a rescue on Ullswater on Sunday.

The rescuers were recovering a canoe which had capsized on the lake with two men onboard.

They then encountered the dinghy, which the team said was powered by a small outboard motor which was struggling to move the craft after already transporting the men for more than nine miles.

A team spokesperson said the trio decided to see if they could make it from one end of Ullswater to the other on a small leisure battery.

“Having reached the Patterdale end of the lake they turned around only to find that the task was not possible and had begun to row the last eight miles back to Pooley Bridge,” the spokesperson said.

“They asked for the assistance of the team, who took their boat onboard and transported them back to the Pooley Bridge.

“The men, one from Preston and two from Hong Kong, were not well equipped and would not have made it to their destination before nightfall.”

The 90-minute rescue involved four Patterdale MRT members.
