A Sea King from RAF Valley joined the rescue

A walker was airlifted to hospital after falling in Snowdonia.

The woman, in her 50s, was walking on the Fisherman’s Path along the edge of Afon Glaslyn today, when she fell and injured her hip.

Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 11.45am after the incident in the Pass of Aberglaslyn.

A team spokesperson said: “The female had encountered a dizzy spell and had fallen backwards, causing her to sustain an injury to her hip.

“With the location being extremely difficult to access for the statutory emergency services, the services of mountain rescue were requested.

“The Aberglaslyn team deployed eight team members and one Land Rover ambulance from its headquarters in Porthmadog. An RAF rescue helicopter from Valley on Anglesey was also requested to assist with the operation.

“Upon their arrival at the scene, the team members assisted in stabilising the female prior to placing her in a stretcher.

“The female was then winched into the aircraft and evacuated to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.”

The rescue lasted about an hour and a half.
