A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found at the foot of a climbing crag in the Yorkshire Dales.

The 32-year-old was found by a passing runner on the slope below Castleberg, overlooking the North Yorkshire town of Settle, yesterday.

The Clapham-based Cave Rescue Organisation said the man had apparently fallen from the top of the 15m (50ft) limestone crag, which is used for sport climbing.

The team was called out about 6.20pm and the man was treated at the scene for suspected spinal, chest and pelvic injuries.

He was then stretchered down to a waiting ambulance which took him to hospital.
