Bridgedale hopes to build its sales further in North America

Sock brand Bridgedale is stepping up its North America operations with the establishment of a base in Canada.

The Northern Ireland company’s new Toronto office will deal directly with sales in the USA and Canada.

For the past two years, Bridgedale’s socks, and other outdoor gear have been distributed by Terramar. Colin Sanders has been appointed brand president for the continent and was formerly Bridgedale’s brand director with Terramar.

Steve Fowler, Bridgedale’s managing director, said: “We have enjoyed two successful years working with Terramar in North America, and I would like to thank the team for their dedication and hard work during their stewardship of the brand.

“Now is an ideal time to invest in the Bridgedale brand and our future growth in North America. Having Colin on board to continue to drive forward is great and, with his in-depth knowledge of the North American sock market, his leadership will prove invaluable in achieving our future plans.”

Bridgedale, based in Newtonards near Belfast, will open its Canadian office on 1 April.

Mr Sanders said: “As the North American market continues to grow for Bridgedale, being able to fully focus on the brand and its products will deliver significant benefits to all concerned, as we can now provide enhanced stock, distribution and service for our US and Canadian customers, while also increasing brand awareness across both regions.”

Bridgedale uses wool Fusion technology in its socks, aimed at the walking, hiking, mountaineering, running, skiing and leisure markets, and also produces hats and gloves.
