The woman could not continute after reaching Black Sail youth hostel

A walker suffering from heat exhaustion was rescued from a remote Lake District hostel.

The woman, from Kent, called for help from Black Sail youth hostel on Friday.

The walker, in her 60s, was with a friend and reported she was suffering from sun-stroke and heat exhaustion and was unable to carry on.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team went to the walker’s aid about 4.25pm and treated her at the hostel, at the head of Ennerdale and which is only accessible by a forest track.

She was then taken in one of the team’s vehicles to Bowness Knott where an ambulance was waiting.

The rescue involved eight volunteer members of the team.
