A mountain rescue team has been called in to search for a walker in the same area as a man went missing more than a month ago.

The Lochaber team has been joined by the Inverness Coastguard helicopter in the hunt for a ‘potentially’ missing walker over the past two days in the Steall area of Lochaber.

The search has been concentrated in the eastern part of the Steall meadows after a rucksack and items belonging to the walker were found close to the river. The man stayed at Glen Nevis Youth Hostel last Thursday.

A team spokesperson said: “The gentleman has yet to be located.”

Last month, a major search failed to find experienced hillwalker Eric Cyl after he was reported missing after heading for a trip in the same area.

More than 60 rescuers took part in the main operation to try to find Mr Cyl, who was believed to be in the Steall, Glen Nevis, Grey Corries, Aonach Beag or Mamores area.

Last month, police brought in a drone to try to locate 62-year-old Mr Cyl, but without success.
