The climber from Dow Crag

A climber was seriously injured in a fall from a Lake District crag.

The man was on a route on Dow Crag near Coniston on Saturday afternoon when he fell.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 12.45pm, and 16 of its volunteers were involved in the operation to help the climber.

A team spokesperson said: “The man was treated for serious chest injuries by team members and was lowered from the crag on ropes, down to the screes below Dow Crag.

“He was then winched aboard a Coastguard helicopter from Humberside and taken to Preston Royal Infirmary for further treatment.”
