A walker has died after collapsing on a popular Lake District fell.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted about 12.10pm on Saturday when the man lost consciousness south of the summit of Cat Bells.

As the team was gathering, it received reports that members of the public were attempting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the walker.

The North West Air Ambulance was scrambled from its base at Blackpool and the Keswick team doctor went direct to the scene.

A team spokesperson said: “While the passers-by, the team and staff of the air ambulance made every effort, the casualty’s life could not be saved.

“His body was flown down to Crow Park, and team members assisted police with the formalities.”

The two-hour operation involved 13 Keswick MRT volunteer members.
