Ueli Steck

The man who climbed the North Face of the Eiger in a record-breaking time will speak to an audience in London this week.

Swiss climber Ueli Steck also completed an 82-peak project last summer, ascending 100,000m in just 62 days.

Tickets are now on sale for the Magic Moments talk on Friday, which will be delivered at the Royal Geographical Society’s headquarters.

Swiss climber Steck reclaimed his Eiger record last year with a time of 2hrs 22mins for the ascent of the North Face.

His Alpine trek over 82 peaks was accomplished by climbing, cycling and paragliding between each mountain.

He said that, other than climbing, his favourite mode of transportation was road cycling: “It was so much. Especially going through some iconic roads on the Tour de France.”

The RGS, along with Mountain Hardwear and Snow+Rock will host the evening with Ueli Steck. To help prepare him for his adventure, Mountain Hardwear’s product team worked with him for 18 months to create a kit to take him the distance.

The kit includes baselayers, insulation, shells, and a backpack. This gear will be available to consumers in spring 2016 exclusively from Snow+Rock stores in London Covent Garden and Leeds.

Tickets can be booked through the World Expeditions website.
