An injured walker was rescued from a Lake District fell after a rescue team member came across her while walking her dogs.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 1pm on Monday when one of its volunteers came across the woman on Barrow, overlooking the village of Braithwaite.

The woman was walking on the fell with her partner when she slipped on muddy grass and injured her ankle.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “The team member raised the alarm, and the team set off to Braithwaite with two vehicles full of personnel.”

The walker was treated at the scene, then stretchered down to Braithwaite Lodge, where she was transferred to an ambulance for transport to West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.

The rescue lasted about 1¾ hours and involved 16 volunteers from the Keswick team.
