A walker was seriously injured when he fell 100ft from a Lake District mountain.

The 48-year-old was walking on Dove Crag on Wednesday evening when the incident happened.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 10.50pm after the man suffered head, neck and back injuries in the fall.

A team spokesperson said: “Due to the seriousness of the incident the team requested the assistance of a Coastguard helicopter which was scrambled from Caernarfon.

“The casualty was treated by team members on the fell before being placed into a stretcher and winched on board the helicopter before being flown to Royal Preston Hospital for further treatment.”
