A walker was rescued after injuring herself in a fall on a Derbyshire hillside.

The 72-year-old was walking near Cromford on Wednesday evening when the incident happened.

Derby Mountain Rescue Team was called to the area for the second time in a four days to aid the woman from Birmingham.

A team spokesperson said: “An East Midlands Ambulance crew was also on scene, and treated the lady for a suspected fractured ankle.

“Derby MRT evacuated her off the hill on their specialist stretcher, taking her to the waiting ambulance.

“She was then transported to Chesterfield Royal Hospital for further treatment.”

The rescue involved 19 volunteers from the Derby team.

Its members were called out on Sunday when a 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a mountain bike accident on the High Peak Trail between Black Rocks and High Peak Junction. An ambulance paramedic also attended the incident.

The Derby MRT spokesperson said: “The man had suffered injuries to his head, pelvis and ankle, as well as a large number of abrasions over his body.

“He was placed in a pelvic splint, a vacuum mattress, and carried to the team Land Rover which drove him back up to Black Rocks to be transported by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.”

Again, 19 Derby MRT volunteers took part in the rescue.
