A walker was airlifted to hospital after injuring herself on the Great Langdale fells.

Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team was called out shortly after 2pm on Sunday.

The Great North Air Ambulance also flew to the scene, at the top of Dungeon Ghyll, where the woman had suffered a suspected broken leg.

The air ambulance’s doctor and paramedic treated her at the site and rescue team members helped carry her to the helicopter. She was then flown to Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness for further treatment.

The walker was in a stable condition when she arrived at the hospital.

The three-hour rescue involved 12 volunteers from the Langdale Ambleside team.
