Mr Van Der Wetering was captured by CCTV in Inverness city centre

Police searching for a Dutch tourist who went missing while walking in the Highlands said a body has been found.

A member of the public made the discovery in a wooded area near the village of Tomich about 3.30pm on Thursday.

Police said officers who went to the scene found the body of a man in his 50s.

Police had appealed for sightings of the 53-year-old, who they understood was planning to walk from Tomich towards Kyle of Lochalsh via Glen Affric. He had stayed in a guest house in Inverness.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are liaising with the family of Cornelius Van Der Wetering, from the Netherlands, whom police were keen to trace to confirm his wellbeing.

“Members of the public are thanked for their response to the earlier appeal to help trace Mr Van Der Wetering.”
