A man who died in a fall on a Snowdonia mountain has been named.

Neil Parnell fell from Bristly Ridge on Glyder Fach on Saturday.

Mr Parnell, 52, of Nottingham, was airlifted to hospital in Bangor but pronounced dead.

His fall was witnessed by another walker on the scrambling ridge who raised the alarm. Two climbers abseiled down to aid him but were unable to revive him. Mr Parnell fell about 15m initially, then a further 30m down a gully.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation members were alerted and the Caernarfon Coastguard helicopter flew to the scene and airlifted the stricken walker from the mountain.

A post-mortem examination found that Mr Parnell had a medical episode before his fall and died of natural causes.
