The Wainwright Society calendar for 2018

The Wainwright Society calendar for 2018

Outdoors fans who want a daily reminder of the beauty of the Lake District can snap up the latest calendar produced by the Wainwright Society.

The 2018 calendar features photographic views of the national park taken by society members, along with line drawings and quotations from Alfred Wainwright.

Proceeds from sales will go towards Fix the Fells’ repairs of paths on Long Stile, the final ascent on the route to High Street from Mardale.

The celebrated guidebook author considered the ascent from Haweswater the finest route to the summit of the fell.

Wainwright Society secretary Derek Cockell said: “For the past eight years, the calendar has completely sold out raising thousands of pounds for our designated charities.

“Fix the Fells undertakes the repair of eroded and damaged footpaths in the Lake District. The work is undertaken by National Trust fell rangers and Lake District National Park Authority volunteers.

“In the last ten years, more than 200 sections of fell paths have been repaired using a variety of traditional techniques.”

The price of the calendar has been held at £10 including postage and packing. The calendar can be bought direct from the society’s website.
