A man’s body has been found on a Highland hillside where a walker has been missing since February.
A member of the public made the discovery above Attadale in Strathcarron on Monday.
Police said, though the body has not been formally identified, the family of Stephen Mitchell of Perthshire has been informed.
Mr Mitchell, 57, of Perthshire, failed to return from a walking trip to visit Bendronaig Lodge, Lurg Mhòr and Bearneas, south of Achnashellach, sleeping in bothies.
Sergeant Bryan Chalmers of Kyle of Lochalsh said: “Police Scotland would like to thank the tireless efforts of Torridon, other mountain rescue teams and all the partner agencies involved in this protracted search.
“Our thoughts are with Mr Mitchell’s family at this sad time.”
The fatality is the third in the Strathcarron area this year. The bodies of brothers Neil and Alan Gibson were found on Liath Mhòr, along with that of their dog.
