A walker was rescued after getting stuck on steep ground at the site of a landslide in the Lake District.

The 21-year-old woman was with her dog on the old Keswick to Threlkeld railway line route on Tuesday when she ventured on to the loose ground affected by a previous landslip caused by flooding.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called out about noon to the site at Low Briery east of the town.

A team spokesperson said: “She found herself stuck and unable to move from her position and phoned for help.

“The team set off with two vehicles, one with two spotters to walk along the railway line to confirm her location while the other vehicle of members rigged up to pick her off.

“She was quickly located and a team member was lowered to her and brought her back to safe ground. Another team member reached the dog and lured it to safety.”

The incident lasted almost 1½ hours and involved 11 team volunteers.
