A teenager has died after falling from a mountain in the north-west Highlands.

Timothy Murray from West Yorkshire was reported overdue from a walk on Stac Pollaidh on Sunday.

Emergency services were alerted shortly before 4.45pm and a Coastguard helicopter flew to the site and located the boy. The body of the 16-year-old was recovered from the hill by Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team.

His family said, in a statement: “It is a very sad loss and Timothy was a lovely son.”

Sergeant Kay MacRae of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with Timothy’s family and friends at this tragic time.

“We would like to thank our partners in Dundonnell Mountain Rescue for their assistance with this challenging incident.

“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal, as is standard procedure with sudden deaths.”
