A hillwalker’s body has been found after a search in the western Highlands.

Police said a Coastguard helicopter located the 56-year-old’s body on Thursday morning in the Killilan area north-east of Dornie.

A search involving Kintail Mountain Rescue Team and members of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service began when he failed to return to his campervan after setting off on a walk.

Members of the Search and Rescue Dogs Association Scotland also joined the search for the missing man.

Police Scotland said the man’s injuries suggested he had fallen. A spokesperson said the walker’s next of kin were aware of the discovery.

Sergeant Andrew Shaw said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course, as is standard practice.

“I would like to thank our partners at HM Coastguard and mountain rescue for their assistance with this operation.”
