Rescuers have found the body of a walker on An Teallach in Wester Ross.

The 60-year-old man was reported missing on Monday evening when he failed to return from a walk in the area.

Members of Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team were joined by the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter in the search for the man.

Members of Torridon and Kintail MRTs and the RAF Mountain Rescue Service from Lossiemouth were also involved in the search, which was supported by dog handlers from the Search and Rescue Dogs Association.

Police said his body was discovered on the mountain about 8.45am on Tuesday. His next-of-kin have been informed, they added.

Sergeant Alasdair Goskirk said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s friends and family at this very sad time.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.

“I would take the opportunity to thank the crew of the HM Coastguard helicopter and the volunteers at Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team for their assistance with this incident.”

A Dundonnell MRT spokesperson said: “He has since been identified by Police Scotland as Rev Johnny Paton from the island of Mull.

“Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team would like to extend sincere condolences to Rev Paton’s family and friends.”
