A Lake District team launched its rescue boat to reach a walker in difficulties on a lakeshore path.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called out about 9.05am on Monday to aid the man who had become fatigued on the route between Howtown and Side Farm in Patterdale.

A team spokesperson said: “Due to the location of the incident the team launched the rescue rigid inflatable boat from Glenridding Steamer pier with team members on board.

“On arrival at scene the gentleman was assessed before being placed on the stretcher and transferred back across the lake to his accommodation.

“Patterdale MRT would like to thank colleagues from Tayside Mountain Rescue Team who assisted with the callout after a busy day’s training with the team.”

The Patterdale team added it was looking into establishing a base on the Ullswater shore to house its rescue boat and equipment.

The craft is regularly used to reach casualties on the south-eastern shore of the lake as there is no direct road connection. Driving from Patterdale to Howtown involves an 11-mile journey via Pooley Bridge and there are no roads between Side Farm and Sandwick.

The spokesperson said: “If you could assist the team in any way, please contact us in writing at Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, Ogilvie House, Patterdale CA11 0PH.”
