A calendar produced by aficionados of the late Alfred Wainwright has gone on sale.

Profits from the Wainwright Society’s 2020 calendar will help establish new facilities at the Blencathra Centre in the northern Lake District.

The calendar features photographs taken by society members, along with line drawings and quotations from the author of the series of Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.

For the past 10 years the calendar has sold out, raising thousands of pounds for the group’s chosen charities.

The Blencathra Centre, in the slopes below the fell from which it takes its name, is run by the environmental educational charity the Field Studies Council.

Tim Foster, head of FSC group north, said: “The fells and lakes changed the life of Alfred Wainwright and I am sure he would be pleased that the funds raised from the 2020 Calendar sales will be used by the FSC at the Blencathra Centre.

“All our work at Blencathra provides tremendous scope to work with the Wainwright Society. We plan to use the funds to establish an outdoor classroom in our grounds to enable field sketching and other activities when there is inclement weather.

“This will also allow us to view some of the 28 Wainwrights from our elevated position. In addition, we are developing a viewing platform and south facing interpretation board to be linked to a laminated fold out chart based on field sketching Wainwright style.”

The calendar, priced £10, can be bought via the society’s website.
