A man has died after collapsing while walking in the Yorkshire Dales.

The 86-year-old had complained of feeling unwell on the bridleway between Ingleton and Ingleborough on Friday.

The Cave Rescue Organisation was alerted about 2.35pm. A team spokesperson said the walker suffered a suspected heart attack.

Ambulance staff requested the team’s help and CRO volunteers took paramedics to the site, a short distance beyond Crina Bottom, in one of their vehicles.

A team spokesperson said: “Despite the best efforts of the walker’s companion, a passing walker, paramedics and CRO members in carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the doctor who had arrived by air ambulance pronounced life extinct.

“When police formalities had been concluded, CRO vehicles transported the deceased down to Ingleton police station, to wait for the undertaker.”
