A runner was rescued after injuring his ankle during a race.

Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team used its speedboat to reach the man who was taking part today in the Helvellyn Trail Run.

The team was called out at 12.55pm and used its rigid inflatable boat to reach the site, between Howtown and Glenridding.

A team spokesperson said: “After receiving treatment from one of the team’s medics the gentleman decided to make his own way to hospital.”

The rescue, which lasted about 1½ hours, involved 17 Patterdale MRT members.
