Rescuers were called out to aid an injured walker who was trampled by cows in the West Yorkshire countryside.

Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team was alerted at 7.10pm on Tuesday to the incident at Southowram near Halifax.

Ambulance crews requested the team’s help stretchering the woman from the site near Walter Clough Lane. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance also flew to the scene.

A team spokesperson said: “Upon arrival of CVSRT the casualty was packaged, transferred on to a stretcher and carried to the awaiting ambulance.

“Walking through a field of livestock can be an intimidating experience and cows, particularly ones with calves, can behave unpredictably.”

The Calder Valley team said advice on walking near cattle is available on the Ramblers’ website.

The incident lasted almost two hours and involved 25 volunteers from Calder Valley SRT.
