A walker has died after collapsing on a Lake District mountain.

The man was heading to the summit of Skiddaw on Saturday when the incident occurred.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at 1.30pm and members of the group began immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The team said many of the party worked within the NHS and emergency services.

The Great North Air Ambulance flew to the scene and helped with resuscitation efforts as rescue team members made their way to the site.

A Keswick MRT spokesperson said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man could not be saved. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
