Frank Smith has gone missing while walking in the Ben Cruachan area

Searches are continuing for a walker who has gone missing in the Highlands.

Police said John Smith, who is known as Frank, has not been seen since Thursday.

His car was found near Ben Cruachan and police said the 84-year-old was last seen making his way up Stob Garbh above Loch Awe, apparently heading towards Ben Cruachan, on Thursday afternoon.

Inspector Paul Collins of Lochgilphead police office said on Monday: “Throughout the weekend and continuing today, extensive searches have been carried out by Police Scotland and partner agencies.

“There is significant concern for Mr Smith’s safety. I would urge anyone who may have been on this route last Thursday or since to contact police with any information about your route or any observations you may have made, no matter how insignificant you think it is.

“Please do contact us as your information could assist in our search to locate Mr Smith.”

The missing walker is described as being 5ft 10ins (1.78m) tall, slim build, with grey hair which is thinning on top.

He was last known to be wearing a dark coloured jacket, grey trousers and a white shirt and had with him wo walking poles and a white sun cap.

Anyone who may have seen Mr Smith or who has any information on his whereabouts, is asked to phone Police Scotland on101, quoting incident number 0922 of 7 August 2021.
