Neil Gillingham is missing after going walking in Glen Coe

Police are appealing for the public’s help in finding a hillwalker who has gone missing in Glen Coe.

Glencoe, Lochaber and Oban Mountain Rescue Teams, along with the RAF Mountain Rescue Service, are searching for Neil Gillingham.

The 43-year-old from Kilmarnock failed to return from a walk after setting off for the mountains. He was last seen near the summit of Stob Coire nam Beith about 1.30pm on Sunday.

Mr Gillingham parked in the glen with the intention of summiting Bidean nam Bian and Stob Coire nam Beith before descending via the Lost Valley.. A Coastguard helicopter has also joined the search for the walker.

He is described as 5ft 8ins (1.73m) tall, of stocky build with receding fair hair and blue eyes.

He was wearing a blue Rab waterproof jacket, black thermal trousers and brown walking boots. He was walking with his black and white springer spaniel dog.

Sergeant Leigh Brown of Fort William police station said: “Neil did not return as planned from a walk in Glen Coe and extensive search activity is now ongoing to locate him.

“I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen or spoken to him at any time since he was last seen near the top of Stob Coire nam Beith on Sunday afternoon to get in touch urgently.”
