A man’s body found on a munro above Glen Coe has been identified as that of missing walker Neil Gillingham.

Police said the discovery was made on Stob Coire Sgreamhach.

Mr Gillingham, 43, of Kilmarnock, had last been seen on nearby Stob Coire Nam Beith on Sunday.

Police Scotland said Mr Gillingham’s family has been made aware and is being supported by its officers.

It added the hillwalker’s death is not being treated as suspicious and, as with all sudden deaths, a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Keith Almond said: “Our thoughts are with Neil’s family at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Officers would like to pass on their thanks to the mountain rescue teams, HM Coastguard helicopter crews and members of the public who assisted with the searches.

“We would also like to thank all those who shared and responded to our appeal.”

Mr Gillingham is the second walker to die on Glen Coe’s mountains this month. David Low, 47, of Bridge of Allan, lost his life while walking in the area just over a week ago.
