Carol Morgan has completed her round of the Wainwright fells, arriving back at Keswick early on Saturday evening.

Her time of 6 days 10hrs 43mins 45secs is the second-fastest by a woman, and fifth fastest overall.

Morgan reached the Moot Hall in Keswick just before 4.45pm, having summited all 214 fells described by Alfred Wainwright in his Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.

The route involves 515km (320 miles) of running and 36,000m (118,110ft) of ascent.

Morgan, a past holder of the Lakeland peaks 24-hour record and female winner of several long-distance events including Cape Wrath Ultra, the Spine Race, Dragon’s Back, Lakeland 100, Kerry Way Ultra and Fellsman, set off from Keswick at 6am on Sunday.

She is only the seventh person to complete the route in less than seven days.

John Kelly set a new fastest time for the Wainwrights in 5 days 12hrs 14mins 42secs, beating Sabrina Verjee’s time by 11 hours. James Gibson set a time of 6 days 5hrs 23mins.

Paul Tierney ran the Wainwrights in 6 days 6hrs 5mins, more than four hours faster than Morgan’s time. Steve Birkinshaw and Tom Hollins have also completed the route in less than seven days.
