A woman has died after falling on a hillside in the Lake District.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted to the incident about 6.10pm on Friday.

A team spokesperson said: “We received a report that a woman in her 70s had fallen from Surprise View which overlooks Derwent Water.”

Team members went to the site and the Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter flew to the scene.

The spokesperson said: “A Keswick MRT member along with a GNAAS doctor were lowered from the top to the woman, while a second group of team members made an approach to the base of the cliff.

“Tragically the woman died from her injuries in the fall.

“Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go to the woman’s family and friends.”

Cumbria Constabulary added: “Officers would like to thank members of the public who responded to an appeal for information, following the death of a woman in her 70s at Surprise View, Borrowdale.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious. The file has been passed to the coroner.”
