Rescuers searching for a walker reported missing in Glen Shiel have found his body.
Kintail Mountain Rescue Team said Richard Dawson’s body was found high on the slopes of the Five Sisters of Kintail range on Monday afternoon.
The 61-year-old had been in the area since 11 July and was reported missing on Saturday after failing to arrive as planned at his hotel.
The Kintail team said it led a challenging two-day search for the walker. “On Sunday we requested the support of our nearest neighbours at Glenelg Mountain Rescue,” a team spokesperson said. “Due to the adverse weather our initial search focus was on lower slopes, access routes and river courses.
“The search resumed on Monday, with improved weather, and we were joined by our other neighbouring teams, Skye Mountain Rescue Team and Torridon Mountain Rescue Team, as well as Search and Rescue Dog Association (Scotland), Police Scotland Highland and Islands MRT and Coastguard helicopters R948 and R151 [from Stornoway and Inverness].
“The team would like to extend our deepest condolences to Richard’s family and friends.
“We would like to extend our appreciation to all the teams that joined us in the search. Thanks also to The Pitstop at Kintail for refuelling tired team members after long hours on the hill.”
Police Scotland said: “The body was found in an area below the ridge of the Five Sisters of Kintail around 4pm on Monday, 28 July.
“The body was located and recovered with the assistance of the HM Coastguard helicopter and Kintail Mountain Rescue Team.
“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
