A man was airlifted from a Lake District fell after he collapsed and lost consciousness.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted shortly after 1.50pm on Saturday to the incident.

A father and his daughter had scrambled up Cat Gill, south of Walla Crag, and were heading for Bleaberry Fell when he collapsed.

Rescuers requested the help of the Great North Air Ambulance Service and its helicopter flew to the scene while mountain rescue team members made their way to the back of Walla Crag.

A team spokesperson said: “On arrival the air ambulance paramedic found the man had fortunately recovered and was now conscious and talking.

“The man was given a medical assessment before being put on a stretcher for a carry up to the helicopter from where he was flown to Crow Park in Keswick to meet an ambulance for onward transfer to Carlisle infirmary.”

The incident involved 20 Keswick MRT volunteers and lasted just over two hours.
