Climbing is suspended on Bamford Edge in the Peak District this week and on weekdays until 15 June.

Access to the edge has been closed by the landowner, as allowed under the Countryside and Rights of Way (CRoW) Act. Weekend access is unchanged, so climbers can clamber on the gritstone as normal on Saturdays and Sundays.

The British Mountaineering Council said: “It’s thanks to the CRoW Act that access to this crag has improved. Please adhere to these restrictions.”

The Act allows owners to close land to the public for up to 28 days in the year, though Sundays and most Saturdays are exempt from this provision.
