Speyside’s long-running soap opera, involving infidelity, death and a love triangle, has ended in tragedy.

Henry the osprey’s final two chicks have died, leaving him and his mate with no offspring. The sad deaths follow the accidental trampling by ill-fated Henry of the first chick last week.

Previously, Henry had kicked a clutch of eggs fathered by a love rival out of the nest, dashing them on the ground below. Henry’s normal mate, EJ, had set up home with a new male VS and produced the eggs before Henry could return to the summer nest to breed.

The drama has unfolded in front of staff and visitors at the Loch Garten reserve near Aviemore. Staff at the RSPB centre say visitors can still observe the two adult birds
