A Sea King helicopter is helping rescue teams search for the walker

An RAF helicopter has joined the search for a missing walker in the Highlands.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and RAF Kinloss MRT are currently searching for the walker in the Monadhliath range, near Newtonmore. Officers from the Northern Constabulary are also using a police dog to search for the walker.

A police spokesperson said they were alerted at 10.15pm last night, Saturday, that the person was overdue from a planned day’s walking in the Monadhliath.

No further details are being released until relatives have been informed.

Càrn Dearg is the highest point on the Monadhliath plateau, rising to 945m (3,100ft).
