Ben Nevis: rescuers went to aid of exhausted man

A walker was rescued from Britain’s highest mountain yesterday as strong winds buffeted Scotland and northern England.

The man was found by another group of walkers near the summit of Ben Nevis on Saturday afternoon, suffering from exhaustion. The walkers rang police at Fort William about 2.45pm to say they were helping the man down from the top of the mountain.

However, he was unable to continue after making part of the decent and Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team went to the man’s aid. He was helped off the mountain and taken to Belford Hospital, Fort William.

The man, whose details have not been released by the police, is currently being treated for hypothermia in hospital. A spokesperson for Northern Constabulary said his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
